Promotion of gift cards – Gifts and decoration accessories

We find it difficult to keep our shelves stocked this holiday season, which is a welcome issue after last year’s pandemic downturn. But there is one item that we have almost unlimited stock of: gift cards. These are the perfect articles to promote for a number of reasons:

  1. Gift Cards Can Attract Buyers During Slower Months
  2. The recipients are often new potential customers
  3. Most people spend more than the gift card amount
  4. About 20% of gift cards go unused, which is 100% profit
  5. They are easy to pack and inexpensive to mail
  6. Seeing a gift card reminds customers of your store

There are many ways to encourage customers to purchase gift cards, the first being to have them available in an attractive format and in any denomination. We have a custom folder printed with our logo on it and use 3M removable adhesive square to affix the card inside. It fits in an envelope if the customer does not wish to enclose it in a greeting card.

You can also consider a promotion. Some stores, for example, offer a $ 15 gift card with every $ 75 purchase. This encourages customers to spend more to hit the $ 75 level and also brings them back during the validity period of the $ 15 gift certificate or card. Others offer a small gift card ($ 10) for free with the purchase of a large one ($ 100).

Creative packaging can also make offering a gift card more fun for your customer. Take a look at this blog entry from Etsy – the ball of yarn would be perfect for a craft store.

We also use gift cards in giveaways and charitable donations and as a free extra lagniappe in our real estate agent closing baskets. Here’s a special idea that might help ease the shock of a popular and expensive item being out of stock until after Christmas. In the 1970s, when Cuisinart food processors were sold everywhere, they offered us an “empty box” that contained just one blade to sell to customers with the promise that the entire machine would arrive in January. While it’s not a good idea to accept payment for something you don’t have, you could console disappointed customers with a special $ 10 free gift card and the promise that they’ll be the first when this year’s hot item will come back in stock.

As a recent article from FIS Business Advisors put it: “When it comes to gift cards, there is something for everyone. Whether it’s seamless convenience, purchasing flexibility, potential for choice, or trusted gift recipient approval, gift cards are a must-have for consumers. And traders too!

Happy retail,
